Today seemed unseasonably warm (for me at least) and had me dreaming of spring/summer attire. This summer I'd like a closet of white linens, lace, embroidery, high necklines, puffed sleeves, stripes, underwear as outerwear, straw hats (big hats, LOADS of hats!), lace gloves, pearl earrings and white socks. I've already begun attempting a variety of Helena B-C style up-dos but to no avail, I've ended up looking more like Bret's hair helmet (which is an accomplishment in itself I suppose). I put together a little bit of inspiration for eye-feasting below featuring some of my favourite on-screen fashions. What do you hope to have in your closet for this coming season? Who/what is inspiring you?
(brief wiener appearance)
<3<3<3<3 amazing
i will take one of everything in this scene please.
my own attempt with silk "puffed sleeves" and straw hat. Needs bigger hair however. Big and curly please!
arrghhh I've wanted Helena B-C's hair in A Room with a View for years and years. I've also tried to do it... but I think I need a perm... and more hair.... of an entirely different texture... She's so hot in that movie. I love that whole look, although I have no neck so unfortunately can't do high necked things. (hehe Bret's hair helmet is hysterical!)
ReplyDeleteAhhh! You look like Diana Barry in that last picture. I am sooo in love with AGG- watched it more times than I can remember! If you find good places for vintage attire in New York, please let me know
ReplyDeleteyour photo fits in perfectly with your inspiration and with such nice colors too. kinda makes me think of a lot of those antique style photos of wendy bevan's i just got done looking at!
ReplyDeleteLily - she is PERFECTION in ARWAV, her little mouth and giant hair with tiny hat perched atop it! In my school days I remember decorating my dayplanner with pictures of her. I was mildly infatuated.
ReplyDeleteRoyalRevolt - Anne was my idol growing up - I even managed to convince my kindergarten teacher that my name was anne and I have my report card still with "Anne McMillan" written on it. Success! I will certainly keep you posted on any ny vintage finds, though I steer rather clear of the shops due to a rather tight budget.
A Thought Is The Blossom - Thank you! I'm not familiar with Wendy Bevan but I will certainly check her out now!
yes yes yes! I want loads of hats as well, straw hats, derby hat, white lace hats.
ReplyDeleteAnd stripes as always, a bit of a marine feeling to that. And light colours, loads of green will be in for spring I think. Chiffong dresses and ripped tees. Oh I want summer now!!
i love this look xx
ReplyDeleteI adore that style it is so beautiful :) I actually had a dream last night that I was wearing one of those beautiful little straw hats, but it was miniature lol
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! Have you seen Days of Heaven, directed by Terrence Malick? It's one of my favorite movies for this flavor of inspiration. As a redhead, I always had mixed feelings about Anne of GG - loved the clothes, was pissed that she wanted black hair!

ReplyDeletelove it, a rad revival of dr. quin medicine woman.
ReplyDeleteThis post is so wonderful...I can't wait for spring/summer to wear pretty, delicate, feminine things. Haha, the reference to Bret's hair-helment made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteLove Room with a View.. I always end up watching those Merchant & Ivory flicks when I'm sick... for some reason they give me an enormous sense of well being :)

i've been trying to work in more little girl influences into my work. while studying vintage styles at work, i came across a picture of a little victorian girl working in a factory, with little boots and a high neckline, her hair half up and half down. i instantly wanted to flounce about in white petticoats and tie bows into my hair. i think i may try elements of this style, just to have fun.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing this inspiration!
Remember when Anne wanted a puffed-sleeve dress? "The PUFFIEST!"...
ReplyDeletei have been wanting the entire wardrobe from Pretty Baby for so long now. love all of this!
ReplyDeleteTotally loooooooove this! I was gonna say for summer I really felt like powder pink, chiffon, nude, minimal but after seeing this I'm not so sure... Puffed sleeves are on th menu definitely!

Yeah - Picnic at Hanging Rock chic always rocks my world. I would like a jaunty boater and all I can find is pesky straw fedora's...

p.s.- if you still need help perfecting an Edwardian hairstyle. Trying looking up 'Gibson girl' on google. I came across a step-by-step tutorial. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the exact one but if I come across it again, I'll post a link.
an amazing spring/summer wardrobe, indeed =]
