a foot of refreshing dirtiness
My apologies for not delivering the substantial entries previously promised! I am presently taking a much needed brain break from writing up business proposals (actually quite fun)! I've no desire to jinx the outcome of my proposal so I wont be mentioning what it is that I am proposing until the green flag has been put out but if you could be so generous as to cross your fingers I would be very much indebted to you! I've done little more than work on business projects (and read subway horror stories) since returning home but after getting this next batch of items in the shop will hopefully be able to slow down and enjoy some of New York's free summer entertainment offerings. New York friends what are some of your favourite summer activities? Last Sunday we ventured out to The Rockaways for a beach picnic and have been taking leisurely sunset strolls over the Williamsburg Bridge (when my feet are not exploding with summer blisters). Which brings me to my next question, where on earth do you find comfortable, affordable, fairly manufactured footwear (a tall order I'm sure)? My modest collection of second hand shoes have been thoroughly destroyed living here (and I mean thorough, I don't think I have one pair of proper walking flats without generous holes in the sole leaving my feet with a handsome layer of filth at the end of each day). I'd love a proper pair of sandals as I accidentally ripped the straps off of my only pair while hiking in Arizona. I am a bull in a china shop when it comes to apparel, absolutely hopeless.
Pictured above are the latest shop listings of the sparkly and shamelessly girly variety (or rather, will be the latest shop listings once I've put them up which should happen shortly after writing this). I know I said that I would try to keep shop talk to a minimum on this blog but the shop has been a bit slow so far this week and the extra eyeballs would be great! Also will be putting a few older shop items on sale! I think I'm getting the hang of etsy, I hope I am.

you are golden now!!
ReplyDeleteI like to find Ferragamo flats on ebay, they're cheap and withstand a lot of wear and tear!
you're secretly proposing to me aren't you. Fingers crossed...xox
ReplyDeleteAimee! I'm afraid somebody beat me to it :( *shaking my fist at Mike*
ReplyDeletecrossing my fingers!
ReplyDeleteEli, yep! back to my ginger roots! I love Ferragamo but find that they are often too narrow for my duck feet!
ReplyDeleteTara, thank you lovey! I'm going to facebook message you!
such a lovely lady :)
ReplyDeletecan i use the first photo on my blog??? pretty pretty please with a cherry on top? i do link back!
xo
aw, so lovely. i really love that first picture. in fact, i really love photos of you in your natural habitat, dirty feet and all.
ReplyDeletenice updates! great stuff.
Sabella, of course you may! Take anything you like!
ReplyDeleteJulia, ohhh thank you! If it's dirty feet photos you like it's dirty feet photos you shall get! I have no qualms with turning this blog into an ode to dirty feet and armpit hair (though the latter is much less visible due to gingerness).
Perhaps you could have your favourite shoes resoled/fixed up? I am forever taking my poor beaten-up shoes to the cobbler for emergency shoes surgery. I can never find good flats new, sandals especially... The only downside is that they usually cost more to fix than what I paid for them.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos!
I'm so bad with shoes, too. But hey, I think it's because we like walking! But it still bums me out because I only really have four pairs of shoes with me in Mexico and I'm going to have to toss most of them before I move back home. I recently got a pair of hand-made huaraches at a local market here. Affordable and fairly manufactured...but I'm not sure where you can find that in the states. You have to let me know if/when you find good strong summer shoes!
ReplyDeleteI'm finally resorting to actually buying some flats myself. I've started biking everywhere and after a few incidents of biking in heels I think it'd be the best route to take.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to find some cute flats too. I have such a hard time finding any I actually like.
And I love the red hair again!
I really love the pink dress with all my heart! You look so cute in it, and actually every time I see you in the clothes you are selling Im like noooo dont sell it, it was made for you!!
ReplyDeleteall my favourite ladies have commented on this entry!
ReplyDeletemoon, I have a few shoes that i've been considering repairing but i'm afraid most of them have gone beyond that point :(.
sewon, landon wears huaraches every day and i am constantly envious of him for it! i've yet to find a pair in my size (we've found them in la and arizona). i will be sure to update about my foot triumph when the time comes!
crystal, i've never tried riding a bike in heels! i cannot imagine that i would be too successful at it! i wish you luck at finding the perfect flat!
nicole, i'm terrible! i hold onto things for the shop far too long and grow far too attached! i confess i wear most things out a few times before finally relinquishing them to the shop. (though have had terrible food incidents where i ended up staining items intended for shop, oops!)
lusting those hats :) they look like so much fun!

Such lovely dresses!
ReplyDeleteYo are so so gorgeous! I can't get over it! Love all of these pieces - definitely going to check out the shop! xo
ReplyDeleteThis gloden mini-dress is amazing.
ReplyDeleteTo avoid hurty feet I usually wear those tiny sockies with my flats or alternatively nude knee-highs. Otherwise both shoes and feet are destroyed. : (
ReplyDeleteBeautiful items in your shop, by the way! If only my waist was two inches smaller!
Mitzi Cocoa, no no no friend not if only your waist was two inches smaller if only the dresses were two inches more! I'm expecting a large shipment of glorious dresses in all sorts of sizes, hopefully there will be one just for you!
ReplyDeleteThe orange and gold is stunning! It's fits your skin tone and hair color great.
ReplyDeleteyou give me hope every day for being a ginger in this merciless summer sun! i haunt your etsy every day in hopes that i will check my wallet and find that it's grown, but i haven't had any luck yet. one day i will snatch up everything!
ReplyDeleteas for shoes, i am terrible at them as well. i only have about three pair that i wear, and they will surely tear to pieces soon. i think i must have an odd manner of stepping, as it is always the right shoe that goes first! i could never give you fashion advice, because you are only my fashion heroine, but i can only wish you good luck in your search, and demand that you spread the good word as soon as possible!
Unbelievably gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat first pic makes me so happy, just by looking at it! :)

I have been having the same footwear problems! I wish I could just wear my gym shoes everyday, but I won't let it come to that. That's why I bought a pair of Tom's (www.toms.com) and they are surprisingly amazingly comfy! Very lightweight, padded at the bottom, and even have a little arch support. Go pick some up and take that walk over the Williamsburg Bridge - it's a great stroll! xo
ReplyDeleteso many colors..so many hats! and it's all so tempting..
ReplyDeleteHello, I just wanted to let you know I featured you in my blog today! I love your site... Thank you and keep up the wonderful work!

ReplyDeleteHi Hanna..I've been following your blog for quite a while, you are an exceptionally beautiful lady :). I am a NY gal myself and the other day I stopped by the New York Botanical Garden it was so peaceful and beautiful to say the least.
ReplyDeleteLaura, you sweet lady you have spoiled me with your kind words! I hope that you find something just for you in my shop one day!
ReplyDeleteMiss Woody, yep! Landon's mum added just a few highlights for the summer!
Christina, yes toms! I had a pair that I loved to death! I'd like something a little more breezy for the summer. hmm.
Thank you for all the kind comments!

For shoes, take a look at Marais (http://www.maraisusa.com) for some SUPER cute flats and wedges. They've gotten a ton of press lately, so they may be a bit too ubiquitous, but there's hardly anything over a $100. I think they usually carry them at the Inven.tory outlet store on Lafayette for even cheaper.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what their manufacturing process is like, but it's a Brooklyn company, so I bet you could write to them and ask!
I'm all kinds of jealous looking at the juicy colors in this post. So delicious! I don't know where you can find walking shoes, I pretty bank on random pairs of keds and converse. Sadface.
ReplyDeleteyou always look so nice!
ReplyDeleteJay, thank you so much for the helpful suggestion! I had a peek at their shop and liked what I saw (especially the oxfords) I only wish the sandals came in more neutral colours!
ReplyDeleteLydia, I think I may be heading in the direction of keds! nothing wrong with that!
Belen, it is not so! it is that i only put up the best pictures, eh eh eh. perhaps i should start posting the outtakes for a more accurate representation!
xo
i think that these photos of you are just wonderful. summer seems to suit you <3
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your proposal! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
ReplyDeletethank you ma'am!!! i ruv reading your blog! my friend told me about it last year..ish? (:

hope you find something you like :)
summer in NY is amazing isn't it? I like to go to the Brooklyn Botanical garden even though it isn't free, but Central Park is. Every Friday at Coney Island they do fireworks around 9:30 pm right off the boardwalk. They're spectacular and all it costs is the subway ride there. I also enjoy Governor's Island. The ferry over is free and they usually have activities going on each weekend. Look for the Jazz Age Lawn Party. I think last year they may have started charging, but it's insanely fun. Oh and in Long Island City there is a summer beach bar on the water, but I've never been.
ReplyDeleteFor shoes, someone said Melissa shoes which are great, but just pop into some chintzy shoe store like David Z or DSW on union square. You'll find tons of cheap easy sandals for summer. I have to say though for summers on our hot pavement, I tend to like Worishofer shoes.
Good luck!
Love love love the bright colors and the style of the clothes!
ReplyDeleteOooh, you need to check out Seychelles too for cuter and girlier shoes. I just bought a cute pair for my upcoming city hall wedding!
ReplyDeletecute pictures!
ReplyDeleteyou have gorgeous hair...
I'm totally in love with that purple hat your wearing ;)
xoxo
