an honest portrait
Dear friends, I made an 8tracks profile (here) so I can make mix tapes for you with each entry (in a legal manner, wee)! If you have a profile there please add me so I can peek in on your jams too!
Landon and I have rented out our place for the month and are heading back north to seek refuge from the sticky summer streets of New York. No doubt you will soon be bombarded with a billion pictures of our romantic floral setting. I'm hoping to do lots of buying while we're out to replenish my pitifully empty shop! Speaking of, I added some more items today including the above two tops! Don't forget to check out the sale section especially as I recently put one of my favourite dresses ever on sale!
Thank you to everybody that responded to my advertising post! I was so thrilled to hear from some of my favourite shop owners and am looking forward to sharing them with you soon! I hope that being away from the city will clear my mind out and open the floodgates to more stimulating entries (though I wont hold my breath knowing that board games and books aplenty await me and will be sucking up all my time). I would love to hear your book recommendations as I plan a trip to my old friend the Ottawa Public Library (where I used to rent LASER DISCS)!
mixtape here.

The heat really is unbearable this summer. In a few weeks My boyfriend and I are moving to an apartment right by the botanical gardens in Shanghai. I'm ready for cooler days. Have a safe trip up north!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, I'm so excited for cooler weather and the attire that comes with it! I'm a miserable summer dresser, I always feel too bare and my unshaven, bug bitten legs too exposed!
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific move!
xo
ahh laser discs! the only time i ever each one was in south carolina at my cousins house when i was about 10. it was brave heart!
ReplyDeletewhoa, Braveheart on laser disc? How many laser discs did it require? Such a long movie! Too bad Mr. Gibson is such a wiener, as I've a soft spot for period pieces and I'd like to watch that one again without wanting to act out the final scene on him for real ;).
ReplyDeleteI lovelovelove the first photo! It's pouring with rain at the moment so I am envious of your floral summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat sort of books are you interested in? If you can find her, Juliet Marillier's Wildwood Dancing, Cybele's Secret and the Sevenwaters Trilogy (starting with Daughter of the Forest) are really good. If you like Anne of Green Gables I'd recommend Lorna Hill or Pamela Brown, both are hard to find though :( also try Victoria Clayton (my favourite author), and if you like Jane Austen-ey books Fanny Burney or Margaret Oliphant. If you are into adult fantasyish Robin Hobb and Katherine Kerr are amazing and not typical "epic fantasy" rubbish. Must stop I can go on and on and on about books, particularly YA fantasy...
honesty is the best policy... easier said than done sometimes... but that first picture of you is mesmerizing
ReplyDeleteHonest, natural and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read Post Office by Charles Bukowski?
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. I really love the of you on the rock :). B&W <3

You are so gorgeous! The first picture is fantastical.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for quite a long time now but I really am completely hopeless at leaving comments. Today, I feel inclined to say "hello"! The lure of your pictures, styling and poetic atmosphere is like a commanding strength and I can never keep away for too long! Amazing work!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the flowers! have a wonderful, cooler time up north.
ReplyDelete..i'm hoping to steal some good book recommendations via your request.
:)
Your blog and your shop are lovely. I intended to actually *say* something in this comment, but as soon as I began writing it I forgot what. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Did you see the last episode of True Blood? So intense!
Oh I'm jealous of your month long escape.... and of the sticky streets of new york for that matter. Summer seems to be over here, and I definately did not get enough chance to frolic!
ReplyDeletexx
Canada, eh? ;) funny, i live in ontario and in a week or two i'm going to NY! have fun :)
ReplyDeletep.s bootiful pictures, as per usual~
I’m not in love with Victorian/Romantic literature, so not really sure what to suggest in that regard except maybe Thomas Hardy’s “Far from the Maddening Crowd”, and anything by the Bronte sisters. Oh, if you haven’t read Isadora Duncan’s “My Life”, I think you will love it, considering your appreciation for modern dance. Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteCrystal Lee
that top photo is divine!!!
ReplyDeletexo.
I have had much success recommending The Shadow of the Wind to people, (despite it's title). I think it makes for an engaging summer read. If I did a mash-up of reviewers comments I would call it: Dickens set in Barcelona during Franco; a moody mystery for book romantics.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures. I will definitely be checking out your shop! I really loved reading White Oleander, so much so I've read it about 6 times haha. I'm currently reading Grapes of Wrath. Simply because I hear it's a classic and blablabla. It's quite good as well :)
ReplyDeleteI love recommending books so thought I'd join in:) I'll back the person up who said about Bukowskis Post Office but my favourate book of all time is called Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see summer lovely pictures, it makes winter fly by when I see what the summer is going to bring!
Oh and you alone have totally made me start wearing eye liner. :)
I hope you have fun whilst you're away! Your photos are gorgeous and thank you SO MUCH for introducing me to 8tracks which I hadn't heard of until now :)
ReplyDeletei've just read 'the death of the heart' by elizabeth bowen and i'm now reading 'fall on your knees,' by ann-marie macdonald. it's FAN.TAS.TIC. you must read it. she's a canadian author and it's just... gah. read it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if you've read it, but last year I read The Fat Woman Next Door is Pregnant, by Michel Tremblay. It's set in Montreal just before the war, and I found its depiction of the neighbourhood and the many characters to be just magical. If your Ottawa school succeeded in teaching you French, you could read the original. Since I'm from Vancouver, mine didn't, but I thought it was excellent even in translation!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time in Ontario! Hope it isn't too humid up there as well!
I'm so glad you put together these mixes! I've been a bit of rut when it comes to my music library. I'm long overdue on an update but hadn't found anything worth downloading until now. So...thank you!
ReplyDeleteYour mix tape was lovely! I wish I was escaping TO some heat! It's freezing in England!
ReplyDeleteAs for books I can't be much help! I just visited the castle where Harry Potter was filmed so I decided to read all the books again! Have a lovelyy time on your holiday though! xxx
beautiful pictures!

Books, books, books! We are up to our eyeballs in the printed page. Here are a few I recommend: The Tale of Beatrix Potter (Margaret Lane), The English Patient (Michael Ondaatje), A Human Eye (Adrienne Rich), A Book of Common Prayer (Joan Didion), Against Interpretation and Other Essays (Susan Sontag), The Portable Dorothy Parker (ed. Marion Meade). Happy summering!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip :) the heat and the weather are crazy, but for now, we are enjoying couple of cool(er) days...
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy you have an 8tracks profile now, your musical taste is truly enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteAs for books; I'm currently reading Hermann Hesse's "Steppenwolf", but I wouldn't recommend it if you're keen on liking the human race. Other favourites of mine include everything by Zafón and I recently read "I capture the castle" by Dodie Smith which warmed my heart in ways I couldn't imagine.
so excited to see that you're following the blog because i love yours! i'd love more info on your lingerie line, let me know what you're up to when you've got some time.
ReplyDeletei plan on living vicariously through you as you explore your pretty floral setting instead of this misery the rest of us are stuck with

I've got quite the crush on you Miss Hannah! =)
ReplyDeletehello. I was wondering if you have heard of Paradis, it is a french men's nude/arts magazine. It has been out a few years. Lily Cole posed a few years back and your photos remind me of the magazine's but particularly of Lily she likes to hang out by rocks and in the bushes too ;) Crystal Renn posed too, and I think you might also like those photos.
ReplyDeletedressing is cool, the heat is bad but cannot help it, we have to wear clothes too, buy some of the best and cool summer dresses from Annie's Online Store
ReplyDeleteNice pics! i love your hair-style!

Lol you guys should try living in Ireland, I've spent the summer sat beside the fire while the rain hailed down on us from morning till night. It really is a miserable place for weather! I wouldn't mind some sweaty pits if some sunshine was up for grabs :@
