keep a dollar in your pocket

Web

Well friends, I'm taking the plunge! Starting a business is proving quite a costly venture and I have an insatiable desire for cheese but cannot presently afford to cram my noggin full of the stuff (perhaps for the best as dairy and belly do not always agree). If you run a business dealing in handmade or vintage attire and are interested in advertising I would love to hear from you! I promise you readers that I will be especially selective and wont be participating in any kind of sneaky advertising.

If you've not heard of Dare Wright it is my great pleasure to introduce you to her. Known best as the dreamy author of "The Lonely Doll" series she was also a photographer, painter, model, actress, seamstress, carpenter, stylist and beloved daughter of portrait painter Edith Stevenson Wright (a relationship not unlike The Beales in Grey Gardens). There are no words I could write here that would do her memory any justice so if you don't mind I'll just direct you here to read about this extraordinary woman!

More on Dare:
The Secret life of The Lonely Doll Biography. (This was my introduction to her last summer and have been enchanted by her since!)

Earlier this month Landon and I celebrated our 4th year of wedded bliss. I feel sometimes almost ashamed of our good fortune, as though we've hogged up all the love and joy in the world for ourselves! I am a very lucky being having found a partner so kind, intelligent, creative and (I daresay) incredibly good looking.

I'm sorry I've not been of many words lately - I'm afraid the hot sleepless nights and even hotter days have not been kind to my brain powers. In the meantime I recommend my link list to the right for loads of food for thought reads!

ps. I added more pictures to this post as I've had quite a number of wedding picture requests lately! I promise to add more once I've located our album (lost under our bed where the bugs with many legs that give me the creeps reside).

Just a few things to share with you today! First, my beloved friend Aimee is heading to Portland for a visit and has requested suggestions for spots to visit, if you have any I'd love to hear to pass on to her!

Secondly, I've finally got around to making a mini tutorial on curling your hair with rags! I hope it's somewhat helpful, I reckon you may have some luck hunting around on youtube as well though! Please feel free to hound me with questions regarding hair in the comments of that post, I'm more than happy to oblige.

Last, a few new items in the shop today! Don't forget to let me know if you purchase something and read this blog as I'd like to send a little drawing just for you! I could use the extra kick in the arse to start drawing again and will happily take requests at your order (portraits of you, dogs, babes, Eric Northman, whatever you please)! While I can't guarantee that that they will be great I can say that it will be a tiny amusement for both you and me!

My sour face is terribly misleading as I have been in pure heaven these past twelve days! We were up at my Dad's newly acquired riverside cottage outside of my hometown Ottawa (hello to new friend Sarah up there! It was super meeting you and your male companion at Blues Fest). It was absolutely breathtaking and I was loathe to leave it so soon.  Being home is nice and as always I'm excited to get back to routine and business though will miss terribly hopping out to collect flowers for indoors, playing excessive amounts of boardgames (also watching excessive amounts of True Blood) and my dad's girlfriend's delicious cooking (you can find her scrumptious vegan recipes here).

Many thanks for all the kind comments on my last post! I did not have much opportunity to troll the internets while away but I promise that I am ever so slowly but surely poking around all of your blogs and playing catch-up.
