cat kissing you

blog3

Thank you all so much for getting my Kickstarter project off to an incredible start! If I could I would cat kiss you all!

We're down to one week left here and I really should be outside drinking a delicious beverage on the dock instead of updating the internet (priorities, I has them). I'm feeling a bit despondent at the thought of returning to the city. I'm all ready to move to my dream communal arty farm in the country, now! Who wants to join me? We can grow all our own food, make our own cosmetics, sew our own clothing, start an 80s hardcore band and watch true blood. Sounds dreamy right? I am looking forward to recommencing our family style friend dinners and I do miss my buddies lounging on our livingroom floor. There aren't any hot nuts on the side of the street (err, grassy path) here either, that's kind of an issue, and the Met isn't here and I can't take a train to see taxidermy animals arranged in fancy dioramas either. Here we have a water trampoline, a kayak that I have yet to step into again, a fireplace, a kitty that sits on my bum and an endless amount of delicious bread. There we have no bum sitting kitty, a mouse named GusGus that lives under our fridge, a George Foreman grill that I use to make caprese paninis, all my socks and a post office within walking distance. I dunno friends, help me fall in love with the city again.

I haven't had a chance to make a new mix for this entry so I'll leave you with this mix of awesome emo jams from the year 2000. These were my favourite songs when I was 15/16 and having feelings.

The Loved One Lingerie

Hey friends, apologies in advance if we are buddies elsewhere on the internet and you've already been bombarded with this following bit of information (and further apologies as I plan to continue to bombard you with it for the next 44 days)!

Yesterday I launched a Kickstarter project! If you've not heard of Kickstarter (I hadn't until a few weeks ago when I met a very enthusiastic project starter who lit the flame under my behind to get things rolling) it's a website that (in their words) is "a new way to fund creative ideas and ambitious endeavors". You set up a project, decide on a time frame, set a financial goal and friends and family and anonymous admirers may back your project by donating a couple dollars here and there! If you meet your financial goal within your allotted time frame you keep the dollars and dreams come true, if not the money stays safely in the pockets of your buddies and all is forgotten and I walk away tearfully clutching my unwanted underpants and shattered dreams.

For every donation above 6 dollars we'll send you goodies! Goodies that include vintage scarves, ties, earrings, handmade brooches, original art, even a shave from the famous barber Sweeney Todd (there is no fear of losing your head there though your mind may be blown)!

If all goes well we've already planned a spring collection including cotton teddies with matching bloomers, brassieres and non-lingerie items for daytime! I'm incredibly grateful for all the early bird backers and the lovely ladies that took the time to post about this project on their blogs (I'm looking at you Tara-Lynn and Emily) thank you so very much!

within sight of my heaven

It's so beautiful here that I'd like to stay forever (something I never thought I'd say about the Ottawa region)! Every tiny task is made a million times better because of my surroundings - even doing the dishes and sweeping the floor is cheerful and fun. The cottage is three floors and on a hill with 30 (what!) windows on the third floor so it feels not unlike sitting up in a tree-fort. Best of all though is my little kitty friend who follows me everywhere and wakes me up by sitting on me and kneading my belly (aiding digestion?) I woke up the other day with a tiny paw sized bruise near my ribs thanks to her enthusiasm.

Landon's been on regular boat outings and is becoming quite the proficient kayaker. I made a rather pathetic attempt at my own outing but instead fell into the water while stepping into the kayak. Floating around on a water cushion suits me and my lack of balance a little better I think.

I realized in a quick review of my blog that you must think us rather solo characters, floating through life with just each other as company. I should remedy this one day and actually share with you some pictures and stories of the wonderful people who make our lives bright and exciting!

Click here for your musical mix! :D

(ps. Thank you for all your literary recommendations! I've not had a chance to get to the library but was incredibly pleased to find that my dad had brought his own collection up to the cottage! I have already made my way through Wuthering Heights and am presently reading Lady Chatterley's Lover with Women in Love lined up after! I will definitely be putting your list to good use when I'm home though and would recommend taking a look at the comments yourself should you be in need of reading inspiration.)

Dear friends, I made an 8tracks profile (here) so I can make mix tapes for you with each entry (in a legal manner, wee)! If you have a profile there please add me so I can peek in on your jams too!

Landon and I have rented out our place for the month and are heading back north to seek refuge from the sticky summer streets of New York. No doubt you will soon be bombarded with a billion pictures of our romantic floral setting. I'm hoping to do lots of buying while we're out to replenish my pitifully empty shop! Speaking of, I added some more items today including the above two tops! Don't forget to check out the sale section especially as I recently put one of my favourite dresses ever on sale!

Thank you to everybody that responded to my advertising post! I was so thrilled to hear from some of my favourite shop owners and am looking forward to sharing them with you soon! I hope that being away from the city will clear my mind out and open the floodgates to more stimulating entries (though I wont hold my breath knowing that board games and books aplenty await me and will be sucking up all my time). I would love to hear your book recommendations as I plan a trip to my old friend the Ottawa Public Library (where I used to rent LASER DISCS)!
