My Pal Sam

I'm writing this while tucked into a cozy bed in a Long Island home soon to be sleeping 19 other people, so getting my sleepy peaceful time in while I can! The reason we're stuffing so many bodies into one space is for my dear friend Sam and a short we're filming for her latest collection, set to debut this September fashion week. It seems then, a fitting time to share these photos we took at my dad's home last month. Sam brought up a mix of her current collection (which you can now buy directly from her here) and her forthcoming collection (lil sneaky peek).

Samantha Pleet Autumn/Winter 2013

Samantha Pleet is no stranger on this blog and, if you've not yet gathered, I can't sing her praises loud enough. Samantha and her husband and partner, Patrick, are two of a kind and their designs reflect so perfectly their sense of humor, adventure and their creativity. Their latest collection combines rigid architectural lines and flowing movement with garments fit for a Giselle or Ondine. I'm hoping to make that little velvet suit mine come round two of the cold months this year!

Samantha's Dress

021_22

Some snow filled photos from our time up north. I borrowed this gorgeous Pre-Raphaelite red velvet dress from Samantha for some festive jogs through snow. These were taken Christmas day when we were treated to a wonderfully warm and sunny afternoon.

Tomorrow, or rather, today as it is now the early early morn and I'm putting off sleep in favor of watching "The Grand" (a nice bit of period soapy goodness) I'm heading off to Phoenix. I'm meeting up with Landon who is driving over after a busy and successful week in LA for the contemporary art fair! Looking forward to desert times, some warmer temperatures and hanging out with Landon's mum's chickens!

See more of Samantha's designs here!

Frances Baker & Samantha Pleet

My adult baby brother, Liam, snapped these shots in our courtyard today before we dodged out to pick up Thanksgiving treats for our, now traditional, Thanksgiving parade and potluck. He's not a bad photographer! I'll be sharing soon a collection of breathtaking photos he took while on his two month solo trek across the US.

Not long ago I received the above dress as a gift from Josephine, the talented designer behind Frances Baker. We (The Loved One) began carrying a select number of pieces from her collection earlier this season (including the above dress) and I'm so pleased for it. This summer I spent quite a bit of time in this dress from her s/s collection and have been wearing the fall counterpart with equal enthusiasm. Again, she has managed to pick out the softest and most comfortable fabric to sew her meticulously crafted design. I've paired her dress here with boots made by another exceptionally talented designer, and pal, Samantha Pleet. I've sung the praises of these boots here before but wanted again to say that they are, simply put, the best. So comfortable and so beautiful and also they are red. To top off this all new, all independent outfit (alright, not all, the hat is from my favourite Ottawa vintage shop, Ragtime) is a ring that I tried and failed to photograph (another time). The cat shaped ring was a gift from Calourette via Landon upon returning home from his Paris trip. I don't wear much jewelry apart from my wedding ring but I, like the rest of the internet right now, would happily adorn myself with as much pussy as possible (can't wait for the google searches to bring folks in with that one). Needless to say, this ring is also, simply put, the best. Thank you CalouretteFrances Baker and Samantha Pleet for making me feel so fancy! Friends I implore you, support small this holiday season!

Happy Thanksgiving to my American pals, enjoy your friends and family and full bellies!

Gatineau Part One

Over Ottawa

Photos from our trip up to Chelsea last week with Samantha and Patrick.

The red boots pictured are from Samantha's latest collaboration with Wolverine. Comfortable, practical and beautiful, I went for a hike in them and no ankle twisted and all four cheeks of mine remained off of the ground. These are boots much like their creators, full of adventure and beauty (a million heart emojis). You can see the full collection of shoes here.

The Languor of Youth

“I should like to bury something precious in every place where I've been happy and then, when I'm old and ugly and miserable, I could come back and dig it up and remember.”

― Evelyn WaughBrideshead Revisited

We took a weekend trip to visit Samantha's Grandma's incredibly wallpapered life sized dollhouse where Samantha and I both donned her designs and ran about the house (careful to not bump into precious glassware) before slipping into the pool for a nighttime swim. This summer has been incredibly generous with out of city adventures.

I made a little mix of some of the music we listened to on our two day roadtrip north. You can listen here
