doesn't seem right without you

Wearing most glorious Edwardian dress that I am rather reluctantly planning to put in the shop upon our return this May! Should any of you claim it as your own please indulge me with pictures (the same goes for all of the shop goods - I would love to see pictures of you)!

This Thursday we leave for our west coast adventure with stops in Hawaii, La, Phoenix and an unexpected last minute addition, Vancouver, to bid a tearful adieu to my most beloved Grandpa.

I'll continue to read your happy news while we are away and will hopefully have some opportunity to update this blog as we roam the coast, but should you not hear from me for awhile do not be alarmed! I promise I am alive and doing my best to reenact Lost, Jurassic Park and Forgetting Sarah Marshall on an island in the pacific.

Landon and I are set to embark on our first tropical vacation in a week from today and I find that I am rather unprepared for our beachy destination (particularly in the swimwear department)! I have a few sweet vintage suits but they are too serious and dark for this particular outing and so I turn to you, internet buddies, where do you find your party-time swim attire? (Our destination is that glorious island of Jurassic Park.) Ideally one of those suits pictured above (especially the bear suit with the big bow and matching hat) would miraculously appear in my luggage (my fingers are not crossed). Any hints as to where I can find a suit in the city or some super online shop? Many thanks in advance! (and then there is the issue of summer footwear... ru-roh)

Pictures from our Easter weekend trip with Wray to her wonderful family home in Connecticut. It was perfect! Again, I must cut this a bit short due to benadryl induced daze (in attempt to tame a collection of itchy red bumps on my face that feel like misquote bites and are refusing to go away. Has this ever happened to any of you?) I've heard that allergies have been particularly bad this season. I promise I'll stop bombarding you with my various skin ailments one day. I made a few silly videos of our last two spring weekends that you can see here and here (featuring turkeys and turtles)!

Goodnight friends!

P.S. Our servers have been down quite a bit these last few weeks so if you've emailed us and not heard back please email us again and we'll get back to you, many apologies for the inconvenience! Also, Landon has made a new website (ANOTHER WEBSITE!) for his design projects - I think it's quite beautiful!

it's just a little crush

katebush

I've recently found myself, rather undeservedly, on a few lovely ladies "girl crush" lists and thought it might be fun to share with you some of my own crushes! I've created five categories of crushes: musical, theatrical, fictional, historical and 60s babes.

The first is my forever favourite songbird, Kate Bush. One of the greatest presents I ever received was a VHS of her live performances, various videos and interviews (oh those days before wondrous youtube) that included this glorious interview of lovely Kate explaining her new vegetarian diet and this one explaining her song and video Babooshka. She is absolute perfection; creative, intelligent, beautiful and kind, what more could you ask for?

Honorable mentions: Bjork, Beyonce, Nina Simone.

Emma_Thompson_2

Dearest Emma Thompson, was it Much Ado About Nothing or Sense and Sensibility that turned my heart so for you? I do know that it was this Golden Globe acceptance speech in which you speak as Jane Austen that secured my affection for you.

Honorable mentions: Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Emmanuelle Beart.

loves_of_a_blonde2

60s Babes! This was a hard one to narrow down to just one lovely lady! Precious Hana Brejchová (as Andula in Loves of a Blonde) stole my heart immediately and continues to delight after repeat viewings. Her face is such a treat.

Honorable mentions: Olivia Hussey, Jean Shrimpton, Anna Karina and this girl.

annewoods

This should come as no surprise to anybody that has read this blog. My love of this redheaded Heroine goes back to kindergarten when I implored fellow classmates to push me away to my watery demise as I lay on a set of wheeled milk-crates trying my best to recite Tennyson's poetry (no doubt just mumbling the recognizable words). I even had my teacher call me Anne and still treasure my report card addressed to "Anne McMillan". Anne is a character written with such affection that I dare you to not fall in love with this intelligent, imaginative, strong-willed girl.

Honorable mentions: Jane Eyre, Sorsha from Willow, Ivy from The Village (most recent crush).

453px-Elizabeth_I_of_England_-_coronation_portrait

(This list has suddenly become rather redhead-centric!) Elizabeth you fascinate me! You were strong when men would rather our kind be weak, you were eloquent and charming, shrewd and intelligent yet short tempered and indecisive. I would have liked very much to be a fly on your wall (and nothing more during those tumultuous times).

Honorable mentions: Anne Boleyn, Lizzie Siddal, Frida Kahlo (there are more but the benadryl I took to calm my allergies has just now kicked in).

Now your turn! Which lucky girl has captured your heart?

Edited to add one final category, Blog crushes!
Julia of A L'allure Garçonnière for always making me think.
Tara of Stay Fancy Free for always making me smile.
and Nicole of Fashion Forestry for always making me drool.

for a relaxing time

Thank you so much for all your tales of (romantic) woe! You made my decision quite difficult, but I have found my lucky lady - congratulations Miss Kensey Crane! I can't tell you how cute it was to envision a tiny Kensey performing these desperate acts of love. Thank you all for participating and I must make special mention of all the gassy ladies (and their mums), friends, you are not alone! For awhile my diet consisted almost entirely of beans and rice (something I am considering doing again as am presently a itchy mess playing hostess to a variety of itchy spots on my face due to recent dairy, caffeine and wheat consumption). I apologize for my tardy announcement but my internet time has been limited lately as we only have one computer and Landon has (quite fortunately) been a busy bee working on computer leaving me to sit and stare at paper and paints (and much to my chins chagrin, eat cheese). I will hopefully have more time this week to properly update blog and respond to emails and comments! (ps have made a few small updates to shop)

not a kitten but a squirrel for you!

pipandemma

Surprise! Another fun giveaway for you! This time brought to you by lovely Australian ladies Pip and Emma who are inspired by "lazy afternoons and spy novels from the 1940s", most excellent. They produce charming handmade goods while "drinking home brew ginger beer and listening to tunes" (sounds dreamy and delicious). You can find more of their lovely creations in their Etsy Shop here

So in the same manner as my previous giveaway I'm asking for your stories! This time, for all my spring twitter-pated buddies, let's hear your comedic tales of romance! I want to hear stories about exploding bikini tops in front of your highschool crush (hehe Wray), interlocking braces, unfortunate poetry, etc. I'll take any funny story though! The story that successfully causes uncontrollable urination (or close to it, rather) will win the darling squirrel pendant! I'll announce the winner next friday (04/09/10)!

Good luck!

stripes!

Dear friends, you were right. You told me to go with Etsy and now I come to you humbled in agreement - yes, Etsy seems the superior internet selling spot. I erroneously assumed that fees would be lower and that there was safety in numbers with Ebay but after reviewing my first week of sales Michael Bluth's voice echoed in my head confirming that I had indeed "made a huge mistake". Foolish me! And such an easy and avoidable mistake! Had I only taken the time to read on fees! Those darn fees! Anyways, enough of that business, I just wanted to share that bit of information with you should any of you be plotting their own online shop. I've put together a little collection of stripes (including those two stripey outfits above) that I plan to put in shop tomorrow (a new shop, called My Loved One as The Loved One is spoken for on etsy).

Tomorrow I have a little surprise for you, sweet readers!
